Inside Emirates’ A380 First Class: A Private Hotel Room in the Sky

Emirates is one of the airlines that best illustrates luxury, and its A380 First Class service shows why people associate the brand with luxury.

The most recent version of this service is more than an improvement. It is a total rethink on what top-end air travel ought to be.

If you love traveling in style or are thinking about paying for an upgrade for the first time, our guide tells you what to expect if you splash out on First Class with Emirates to travel on their A380s.

Be prepared for excellent service, beautiful design, and facilities that can make hotels with five-star ratings jealous – starting from when you arrive at the airport.

Airport Experience & Lounge Access

When your journey begins at Dubai International Airport (DXB), you’ll experience Emirates First service – an exclusive check-in area just for First Class travelers. Unlike the main terminal, where things can be hectic, Emirates First is peaceful and elegant.

A small team of staff will meet you on arrival, assist you through the check-in process, and make sure your baggage is taken care of. It’s not just about efficiency. It’s designed to give you a sense of calm as you transition from land to air travel.

After clearing immigration quickly using special lanes, head to the Emirates First Class Lounge in Terminal 3. This isn’t your average airport lounge but more like an exclusive club.

You can relax in one of the quiet zones or visit the cigar lounge. If you need a shower, there are many and each one is cleaned spotlessly after use.

There’s a large buffet with lots of hot and cold dishes as well as staffed cooking stations where you can order food made by chefs.

When it comes to drinks, choose from premium wines, Champagne, and spirits, all of which are free. The bar has top-shelf options such as Dom Perignon, which is also free.

The design features ambient lighting, runway views, and staff who provide five-star hotel service to people who are only stopping over for a few hours. This means you’ll feel more like a guest at a luxury resort than a transit passenger.

Private Suites and Cabin Features

Stepping into the First Class cabin of an Emirates A380 doesn’t feel like boarding a regular plane. It’s more akin to stepping onto a luxury yacht or train. Each passenger has their own private suite, with sliding doors that reach up to the ceiling for total privacy.

The design was inspired by top hotel rooms and provides a space that’s entirely self-contained. There are various lighting options plus controls, so you can adjust how warm or cool it is. Every seat is really comfy and comes with an ottoman footstool clad in super-soft leather from Poltrona Frau.

As well as programming it to become a bed, cabin crew will make up your seat with an indulgent mattress topper, duvet, and big pillow, should you want to get some shut-eye.

And if its appearance doesn’t already trick you into thinking this, lots of other elements have been designed to do just that. There’s even a minibar area specifically for your own use.

Don’t be fooled by thinking they’ve forgotten nifty little touches, such as mirrors with lights that would not look out of place backstage at a fashion show. High-tech blinds with several different settings are also standard.

What sets Emirates apart is its legendary A380 Shower Spa. During the flight, First Class passengers can reserve a time to use one of the spa’s roomy showers.

You’ll get fluffy towels, plus bathrobes and organic VOYA toiletries made from seaweed. The products are meant to refresh you during or after long stints in the sky. And they do! No other commercial airliner offers this amenity.

In addition, those flying upfront also have access to an onboard lounge beyond the curtain. It’s here that travelers mingle with business-class passengers while sipping signature cocktails and snacking on small bites.

Dining at 40,000 Feet

In Emirates First Class, dining is an elegant experience where you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want. You might begin with some tasty bites and Arabic coffee.

Then have a classic dish like caviar or try something from the Japanese menu, such as sushi with miso soup that changes depending on the time of year. There’ll also be bread rolls, plus side dishes if your main course doesn’t already include them.

At this stage, there are two options: either Australian fillet steak and/or lobster thermidor. A selection of cheeses, including ash goat cheese, is produced in the Yarra Valley. To finish – enjoy with port wine.

Emirates has pulled out all stops when it comes to drinks. They serve top-notch champagne brands, Dom Perignon and Krug, throughout the flight. Passengers can also sip various vintages from an exclusive onboard cellar curated by sommeliers.

Entertainment & Connectivity

For a while now, people have been saying that when it comes to entertainment while flying, ICE from Emirates is one of the best systems around. If you’re lucky enough to be traveling First Class, you’ll find it’s even better. Especially as each suite has a huge HD touchscreen.

This gives you access to over 5,000 different channels, so whether you fancy watching movies, TV programs, listening to music, podcasts, or even watching live television. You can do all that and much more. In fact, the choice is so vast that there’s pretty well something for everybody.

As if that wasn’t enough already: use noise-cancelling headphones to really feel as though you are in your own private cinema. Plus, play around with mood lighting effects or just keep things simple and stream whatever you want without interruption (this is particularly good for TV series fans).

Wi-Fi is available throughout travel time, and there are various data packages to choose from. And for those who’d like to use their mobiles mid-air, it’s possible to do so via satellite services.

Luxury Amenities

Emirates First Class amenities are more than just a kit. When you arrive at your suite, you get an exclusive Bulgari amenity bag.

The design changes each season and is often considered collectible by frequent fliers. The bag contains a 30ml fragrance, plus face cream, body cream, lip balm, and more. All available in male and female versions.

There is also a Byredo wellness kit with products such as sleep oil, hand lotion, and eye cream.

If you are flying long haul or overnight with Emirates and have booked into First Class, you will be given Hydra Active pyjamas. These do not merely offer comfort. They are infused with skincare technology so that moisturising agents are released onto your skin throughout the flight.

Bottom Line

Traveling in First Class on an Emirates A380 is an incredible experience. It feels as though every detail has been planned just for you, from check-in to landing: the service, the design, the comfort. It’s all perfect.

Emirates offers the most luxurious way to fly: your own suite (with sliding doors), amazing food (created by chefs trained in five-star restaurants), lots of entertainment (3,500 channels), and a spa with a shower. No wonder their motto is “Fly better”.

But the really great thing about flying in First Class with Simply Business Class is that it can cost up to 50% less than the usual price.
