International flights to Athens will land at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport. The airport is located about seventeen miles outside of the city center and there are several options for getting from the airport to your hotel. After arriving, you can stop at one of the tourist information stations that you will find near the Arrival section. There, you can ask questions about things to do and sites to see, or you can just grab a few brochures to take with you to your hotel. If you plan to leave Athens after a short period of time (for instance, if you are only going to be there for a business meeting), you can leave your excess luggage in the storage facility. At the storage facility you can pay a small amount for your luggage to be kept safely until you return to the airport.
You can travel from the airport to your hotel via several different options. If there is not a strike, you can take the subway (referred to in Greece as the Metro) to the city center. You can also take a train or a bus, although sometimes this can take longer than using the metro. The fastest, albeit the most expensive option, is to take a taxi from the Athens airport to your hotel. One important thing to keep in mind if you are hiring a taxi – Athens passed a law that states that during the day a taxi from the airport to the center of the city is € 35, while a night time fare from the airport to the city is € 50.
